For flights from outside Schengen, allow 60–75 minutes. With additional border checks, this can take up to 90–120 minutes. Ready earlier than expected? The train from Weesp to Schiphol seems logical, until it's cancelled.
In 2025, there were 586 significant disruptions on the Dutch rail network, confirmed by ProRail's annual report, resulting in a €2.75 million fine after the target of 520 was significantly exceeded. Anyone travelling to Schiphol regularly ran into engineering works or delays more than once. And during a disruption, you're not the only one looking for a taxi: suddenly everyone wants one, and none are available.
But even without a disruption, the train journey to Schiphol isn't exactly relaxing. It's early. You've barely slept. The suitcases are heavy. It's raining outside. You haul everything to the station, look for a spot on the platform, stand waiting in the cold, and then the train turns out to be packed. With children in tow, it's a logistical operation before you've even taken a single step towards Schiphol.
A taxi is the opposite. You get up, you get in, you're dropped off at the correct departure hall. Warm, dry, without any hassle. No parking costs, no platforms, no changing transport. The journey itself is tiring enough as it is, so the departure doesn't have to be.
Weesp, six centuries of town history on the Vecht.
Weesp received its town charter in 1355, giving it a history stretching back more than six centuries. The fortified town sits on a bend in the river Vecht, with star-shaped fortifications that were once part of the Dutch Waterline. Three windmills are still in operation, and history remains visible everywhere in the Slijkstraat and around the Grote Kerk and the synagogue. For centuries, the town made its name through beer, jenever and later Van Houten chocolate.
Since 2022, Weesp has officially been part of the municipality of Amsterdam, but it kept its own administrative committee and its own Sociaal Loket on the Nieuwstraat. Meanwhile, the town is growing quickly: from just over 18,000 residents in 2013 to more than 26,000 now, largely thanks to the new housing development in Weespersluis.
Weesp has its own train station, with connections towards both Amsterdam/Amersfoort and Schiphol/Almere. For anyone who needs to be at Schiphol on time, travelling with luggage, early in the morning, or without the hassle of changing trains, a door-to-door ride is often simpler than planning a trip by train. We'll pick you up wherever you live, in Aetsveld, Weespersluis or the town centre, and drop you off at the terminal.
