For arrivals from within the Schengen Area without checked baggage, it usually takes 20–30 minutes to leave the terminal. With checked baggage, this is around 45–60 minutes. For flights from outside Schengen, allow 60–75 minutes. With additional border checks, this can take up to 90–120 minutes. Ready earlier than expected? The train to Schiphol seems logical, until it's cancelled.

While the historic centre still revolves around the 17th-century canals and warehouses, Amsterdam is also a modern business city. After Plan Zuid, Nieuw-West and IJburg came the Zuidas: towering office buildings of banks, law firms and multinationals, right next to the A10 and A4 motorways. From the Zuidas, you can head straight onto the A10 and A4, directly towards Schiphol.
