Why take a taxi to Schiphol

The train to Schiphol seems logical, until it's cancelled.

In 2025, there were 586 significant disruptions on the Dutch rail network, confirmed by ProRail's annual report, resulting in a €2.75 million fine after the target of 520 was significantly exceeded. Anyone travelling to Schiphol regularly ran into engineering works or delays more than once. And during a disruption, you're not the only one looking for a taxi: suddenly everyone wants one, and none are available.

But even without a disruption, the train journey to Schiphol isn't exactly relaxing. It's early. You've barely slept. The suitcases are heavy. You haul everything to the station, look for a spot on the platform, stand waiting, and then the train turns out to be packed.

A taxi is the opposite. You get up, you get in, you're dropped off at the correct departure hall. Warm, dry, without any hassle. No parking costs, no platforms, no changing transport. The journey itself is tiring enough as it is, so the departure doesn't have to be.

Amsterdam canal
The story of Amsterdam

Amsterdam, from a dam in the Amstel to the financial heart of the Netherlands.

Amsterdam originated around 1275 as a small settlement by a dam in the river Amstel, which is why the city celebrated its 750th anniversary in 2025, including a large celebration on the closed-off Ring A10. Shortly after 1300 the settlement received town rights, after which Amsterdam grew during the Golden Age into one of the most powerful trading cities in the world. The canal ring was built as part of the city's expansion and served purposes including water management, transport and defence; along the canals rose the stately merchant houses that symbolised the city's prosperity. Since 2010, the canal ring has been on the UNESCO World Heritage list. Today the municipality has more than 900,000 residents, spread across seven districts and the nearby urban area of Weesp.

While the historic centre still revolves around the 17th-century canals and warehouses, Amsterdam is also a modern business city. After Plan Zuid, Nieuw-West and IJburg came the Zuidas: towering office buildings of banks, law firms and multinationals, right next to the A10 and A4 motorways. From the Zuidas, you can head straight onto the A10 and A4, directly towards Schiphol.

Anyone looking for a taxi from Amsterdam-Zuidoost to Schiphol is also closer than they might think: the A9 runs through the district via the Gaasperdammertunnel and connects directly to the A4 near Badhoevedorp, right by the airport. What applies to every district: no hauling suitcases through narrow streets or to a busy station, no changing trains at Amsterdam Centraal. We'll pick you up at your door and take you straight to the departure hall. Choose your district above for the exact price and more information about your neighbourhood.
