The train from Almere to Schiphol seems logical, until it's cancelled.
In 2025, there were 586 significant disruptions on the Dutch rail network. Anyone travelling to Schiphol regularly ran into engineering works or delays more than once. And during a disruption, you're not the only one looking for a taxi, suddenly everyone wants one, and they're all gone.
But even without a disruption, the train journey to Schiphol isn't exactly relaxing. It's early. You've barely slept. The suitcases are heavy. It's raining outside. You haul everything to the station, find a spot on the platform, stand waiting in the cold, and then the train is packed. With kids in tow, it's a logistical operation before you've even taken a single step toward Schiphol.
A taxi is the opposite. You get up, you get in, you're dropped off at the right departure hall. Warm, dry, no hassle. No parking costs, no platforms, no changing trains. Air travel is tiring enough; getting to the airport doesn't have to be.
Almere to Schiphol: route, travel time and peace of mind.
Almere is the youngest major city in the Netherlands, built on reclaimed land, with the first houses dating from 1976 and now home to over 230,000 residents. The city has six districts: Haven, Stad, Buiten, Poort, Hout and Pampus. Each has its own character, from historic Haven to spacious Buiten and the newer Poort right on the A6.
For Almere residents, the A6 is the fastest route to Schiphol. Via the Hollandse Brug at the Muiderberg interchange, the route continues onto the A1 and then the A9 to the airport. Outside rush hour, this takes 30 to 35 minutes, slightly less from Almere Poort. The Hollandse Brug is the only real bottleneck, particularly during the morning rush toward Amsterdam.
Almere also has its own identity: the Strandfestival ZAND at Almeerderstrand, the Bevrijdingsfestival Flevoland, and the modern architecture around the Weerwater draw thousands of visitors every year. But for anyone with an early flight, a taxi straight from the door is the most reliable option.
